Jeralyn is the second runner in Nebraska history to win four all-class gold medals at the State Cross Country meet.  She set the state 5000-meter cross country record (18.09) and was named the Nebraska Gatorade Runner of the Year in 2011, 2012, 2013, and 2014.  She attends Michigan State, majoring in Earth Science/Meterology. She is a member of the Spartan cross country and track and field teams.

2016- Sofie Tate Columbus

Sofia Tate began dancing in kindergarten.  She was inspired to pursue cheerleading after watching a performance by a University of Arkansas cheerleader on the internet.  She cheered for Columbus High School, incorporating athletic feats such as back handsprings into her routine.  She is currently a cheerleader at Nebraska Wesleyan, studying communication.

2016:Jerry and Tina McLain Family

Chadron

Standout athletes at Mayville (N.D.) State, Jerry and Tina McLain moved to Chadron in 1991 where all six of their children participated in three sports every year of high school, helping the Cardinals forge a golden era of success.  The boys excelled in football and baseball.  From 2002 to 2008, Chadron High won 52 of 61 football games with a McLain at quarterback.  Joe and John went on to be four-year starters at quarterback of Chadron State College.  Jake played football and baseball at Mayville State, earning all-conference honors in baseball three times.  Jamie and Jasmine helped Chadron High School qualify for the state tournament in volleyball and basketball and went on to play volleyball for Chadron State.

2016- Chadron Girl’s Golf

In the years from 1981 to 1984 the Chadron High girl’s golf team won 27 of 33 tournaments that they entered.  In 1984 The Red Birds won all eight of their tournaments by an astounding 510 strokes.  Team member Susan Roll was all class gold medal champion in 1982, 1983, and 1984 and was inducted into the Nebraska High School Sports’ Hall of Fame in 2001.  Teammates Robin Muller also added to the medal count earning individual honors all four years.

2016- Papillion-LaVista Softball

Papillion-LaVista has qualified for the state softball tournament every year since the sport was offered by the NSAA.  During that time the Monarchs were state champions 13 times, ten straight and runner up four times.  Some all-time great players have worn the maroon and white during this era including Gina Metzler, Karissa Hovina and Hall of Fame members Peaches James and Leigh Suhr.
