The Rev. John and Delores Bellar from Walthill,
Nebraska, were the parents of sons John, a 1973
graduate; Jay, a 1976 graduate; and Jeff, a 1978
graduate. Rev. Bellar was the BluJays bus driver
and Delores was a teacher’s aide for the Walthill
schools. All three sons went to Wayne State
College and became educators and successful
high school coaches. John Bellar coached a state
runner-up team at Greeley. Jeff is the state’s career
wins leader in football with 393 through 2022
and has coached 10 state champion teams and
eight that were runners-up, many with John as an
assistant. Jay Bellar went into administration and
was superintendent at Battle Creek and executive
director of the NSAA. The Bellar brothers have
eight children and four stepchildren who were
involved in high school athletics.
