Gaylen Kamrath- David City
The cowboy boots, he left on the mat at the Omaha arena. Gaylen Kamrath had signified his retirement in 2011 after 33 successful seasons as David City’s wrestling coach. The Columbus native taught two years at Monroe before coming to David City as head track coach and an assistant in football and basketball. His Scouts wrestling teams were Class C State Champions in 1984, and they were runners-up in 1990, 1991, 1992, 1993 and 2004. In his time at state David City had 181 qualifiers, 94 medalists, 45 finalists and 22 champions. Gaylen’s honors include the Nebraska Scholastic Wrestling Coaches Association Hall of Fame (he was the NSWCA’s Coach of the Year twice) and the Nebraska Coaches Association’s Guy Mytty Award recipient in 2002.
