ATHLETE
CHAD MEYERS
Omaha Gross (Class of 1993)
Few three-sport athletes excelled in high school like Chad Meyers, who became the first from Omaha Gross to play in Major League Baseball. He set Class B records in football, earned allstate honors twice, and was named to the 1992 All-Nebraska team. An undefeated senior season in wrestling, capped by a Class B title, gave Gross its first team championship and closed his career with 107 wins. At Creighton, Chad set stolen base records, earned second-team AllAmerica honors as a senior, and played for the USA Baseball team in 1995. Drafted in the fifth round by the Chicago Cubs in 1996, he was named the team’s rookie of the year in 1999, beginning a four-year major league career that concluded in 2003 with Seattle.
