A coach and athletic director at Louisville and Fremont, Bill Fitzgerald was active in the national and Nebraska State Interscholastic Athletic Administrators Association, the Nebraska School Activities Association, the Nebraska Coaches Association and their governing boards. A graduate of Auburn High School and Peru State College, he began his educational career at Central Heights in Kansas before 24 years at Louisville where he was the head coach in volleyball, boys’ basketball and girls track before becoming activities director. The Lions were Class C runners-up in girls track in 1984 and 1985. He was assistant principal and athletic director at Fremont 2005 to 2017. Fitzgerald died unexpectly in 2023.
