Coach
In a well-honored career that spanned three sports and three states, Dave Eppert was a national coach of the year in boys gymnastics and in girls gymnastics. At Lincoln East, his Spartans were state champions five times in girls and four times in boys, with seven runner-up teams. East was ranked No. 1 nationally in boys gymnastics in 1988 and 1989. The Boone, Iowa, native competed in gymnastics and diving at Council Bluffs Jefferson and gymnastics at Northern Iowa. He coached two Iowa state championship boys gymnastics teams at Waverly Shell Rock at the start of his career and Arizona girls and boys diving state championship teams after gymnastics was retired in Nebraska.
