COACH
FRED PETITO-COACH
MILLARD NORTH
During the longest head coaching tenure in Class A football, 41 years, Fred Petito produced five state championship teams and the most recent Heisman Trophy winner from the state. The Chicago native, who came to Nebraska as a Hastings College athlete, coached the Mustangs from 1983 to 2023 after his first two years as a head coach were at Omaha Cathedral. He devised a run-oriented offense that became his signature, strengthened by the play of 2001 Heisman winner Eric Crouch as quarterback. Millard North was state champion in 2003,2005,2010,2012, and 2015 with eight finals appearances in that span. He retired with a career record of 285-167.
