GARY PENCE

Official
Fifty years of basketball officiating for Gary Pence began in
his freshman year at Doane College. Over six decades, he
worked 3,300 games, was assigned to more than 100 district
tournaments, and officiated state tournaments across three
decades. He valued working with fellow officials as well as the
friendships he formed with coaches, players, administrators,
and fans at each school. A notable memory was officiating
Class A games in Lincoln for the Big Four coaches — Paul Forch,
Aldie Johnson, Ed Johnson and Wally McNaught. He also
enjoyed his teaching and coaching career at Norris High
School.
