Coach
Jerry Cover’s golf teams at Norfolk seldom were out of championship contention. Over his 37 years with the Panthers – he coached both boys and girls for 20 years. His girls teams were Class A state champions three times and his boys were Class A state champions in 2018. They were runner-up 11 times. The combined programs won 129 tournaments, including 25 conference titles and 23 district titles. A native of Minden, he taught and coached in his hometown for five years before entering private business for two years. He re-entered the education field in 1982. He was the Nebraska Coaches Association golf coach of the year in 1996-97 and again in 2003-2004. In 2013 he was a finalist for national golf coach of the year.
