LINCOLN SOUTHWEST
When Mark Watt retired as the Silver Hawks first softball coach in 2021, his 579 victories over 20 seasons made him the winningest coach in his sport in Nebraska. Southwest was in 15 state tournaments, the first when it was a second-year school, and was state champion in 2008, 2009, 2018 and 2021 with other finals appearances in 2007, 2011 and 2017. A graduate of his home state University of Michigan, he was Omaha Brownell Talbot boys’ basketball coach for four years prior to joining the Lincoln Public Schools. He was the Lincoln Journal Star’s 2019 state girls coach of the year and the National Federation of State High School Associations coach of the year in 2021.
