From the second she entered high school, Nicole Brungardt established a standard of greatness. Starting every volleyball and basketball game for four years, and accumulating seven gold medals at the state track meet, she earned Athlete of the Year honors as a senior. On the volleyball court she set the Norfolk Catholic record for kills with more than 1,200 to go with more than 1,100 digs. In basketball, Brungardt led Norfolk Catholic to the state championship in 2008 and a runner-up finish in 2007, graduating with the school’s scoring record. Her track gold medals came in the sprints and long jump, including all-class gold medals in the 100 and long jump as a senior. After high school, she was a four-time track All-American and a four-year letter winner in volleyball at Wayne State. She continued her athletic career competing on the world stage with the U.S. women’s bobsled team.
