ATHLETE
SHAQUIL BARRETT
Boys Town (Class of 2009)
Living in inner-city Baltimore, Shaquil Barrett’s father wanted his two sons to have a safer environment, so he placed them at Boys Town. Shaquil’s first game in the NFL brought him full circle—a win against his hometown Ravens. In his two years at Boys Town, he was a state champion wrestler and football standout. He played for UNO in its final year of football, then transferred to Colorado State, where he was the Mountain West Player of the Year as a senior. He made the Denver Broncos roster in 2014 as an undrafted free agent and went on to start 85 of his 132 games in the NFL over 10 seasons, winning Super Bowls with both the Broncos and Tampa Bay. He was named All-Pro in 2019 when he led the NFL in sacks.
