Tim Wurth stood “a step above even the great players,” said his high school football coach, Larry Jacobsen. The 1976 Nebraska boys athlete of the year broke Metro Conference scoring records with 38 points in a game and 24 touchdowns and 156 points in an all-state seniior season. The three-year starter had back-to-back 1,000-yard seasons and was the Class A career leader with 3,656 yards and 270 points. Wurth was the batting champion (.444) as a junior, leading the Bulldogs to the state baseball championship. He led the team in home runs as a senior. At Nebraska, he broke the freshman rushing record before earning three varsity letters at fullback and I-back.
