The Cardinals appeared in 11 State Tournaments and were the first boys team to win four consecutive state titles. The Cards finished first, second or third almost every season in the 10 team Sandhills-Gateway Conference and later in the 16 team Niobrara Valley Conference. Howells
Football/Wrestling

For one high school to achieve dominance in one sport over the course of several years is an outstanding achievement, but to do so in two sports is indeed, remarkable.  This is exactly what Howells High School football and wrestling teams achieved in the years 2000 to 2012.  Over that time period, the football team won nine state championships while competing in D1 and D2.  During those same years, the wrestling team, competing in Class D won four state championships with two runner-up finishes.  Both teams made significant contributions in support of this outstanding record of success.
