Bruce Benedict-Millard

A 12-year catcher with the Atlanta Braves who twice was selected for the All-Star Game, Bruce Benedict was a two-year starter at Millard High in football, basketball and baseball and starred at UNO in baseball. At Millard, the starting quarterback and defensive back led a relatively new Class A school to back-to-back eight-win seasons, setting several passing records and picking off eight passes. Atlanta took Bruce in the fifth round of the 1976 draft after he played three seasons at UNO. With Atlanta, he was a defensive standout, setting an MLB record by throwing out three base stealers in one inning. His career batting average was .242. After his baseball career, he became a college basketball referee.
