Larry Porter

In a 40-year writing career with the Omaha World Herald, Larry brought high school sports and its stories to the public.  The newspaper’s primary prep sports writer from 1976-1990, Larry authored prep ratings and All-Star teams and used a penchant for storytelling to cover an expanding era of Nebraska high school sports.  He moved into the outdoor beat, but continued to write about high school sports on the side.  Porter is a three-time Sports Writer of the Year and twice won The Associated Press’ Sports Story of the Year award.  He also has received awards from the Nebraska Coaches Association, the Nebraska Athletic Director’s Association, and the Nebraska School Activities Association.
