Paul Beranek’s specialty was painting basketball masterpieces.  He was an art teacher for 31 years at Ravenna before passing away from cancer in 2015. In his 25 years as boys’ basketball coach, the Bluejays made nine state tournament appearances.  The golden era included four state championships (with undefeated teams in 2005 and 2012), a fifth finals berth, and three third place finishes between 2004 and 2012. A memorable game came in 2006, when he led Ravenna against Class A Bellevue West. Paul’s career record was 448-241. He also served as the Bluejays’ track coach for 29 years.
